The world is always changing, and as the film industry is demanding the changes to happen fast to adapt to satisfy the viewers’ demands quickly, constant innovations and contributions are inevitable. Each year is remarkable in the film industry by its contributions, and they can be oppositely different: from changes in the technical approach to making films to the role of one actor or actress, who can set up a new vision in the whole area of filmmaking. Moreover, the viewers always demand something new and, thus, all new masterpieces in the industry should be created to satisfy the ficklest audience. The year of 2017 isn’t the exception, the contributions made to the film industry in this year are impressive and due to the technology development are even innovative. So, let’s have a look and see what has changed in the film industry in 2017.

Traditional approach

By calling this paragraph “traditional approach”, it was meant to analyse the Oscars’ winners in the nomination “Honourary Film Academy Award”. They received this award in 2017, and although their merits cannot be related precisely to the achievements in this year, their contribution to the film industry is enormous, they have changed it, and all these were honoured and awarded precisely in 2017. The Honourary Oscar-2017 received: Chinese actor — Jackie Chan, British editor — Ann W. Coates, casting director — Lynn Stalmaster and documentary director — Frederik Weisman.

By the way, a significant impact on the film industry had the British editor and producer Ann V. Coates. She has 53 films behind her and receiving this year an Oscar is a momentous event, as she contributed her life to the film industry and changed the attitude to female editors in the film industry. In her 91 Ann is in her right mind, and bright memory continues to work and does not plan to retire. The latest film work, edited by Coates, is the trilogy “Fifty Shades of Grey”. Anne was also involved in such famous films as “Striptease” with Demi Moore, “Sweet November” with Charlize Theron, “Taking Lives” with Angelina Jolie, and others.

Having been nominated in the category “Best Film” during the Academy Awards Ceremony, such films as ‘La La Land”, “Lion”, “Moonlight”, “Manchester by the Sea” have undoubtedly contributed to the film industry in 2017 changing some aspects of filmmaking and approach to film understanding.

Financial aspects

In 2017 the British film industry experienced a real production boom and added to the whole economic growth of the country. Thus, substantial financial investments were made to this sector from the government and the private persons as well. The United Kingdom Office for State Statistics revealed the information that in this year contributions and investments to the film industry increased up to 9%. It was a reason for creating the more favourable and reliable atmosphere in the film industry and, thus, the number of investments nowadays is only becoming higher.

According to the chief executive of the United Kingdom Cinema Association, the British cinema industry is now in its period of unbelievable success. The reason is that except positively responding audience to the high level and quality of newly created films, the financial contributions to the film industry have reached unprecedented levels, refreshing the film industry popularity.

Impact of technology

Needless to say, that contributions from the innovative technological sphere have affected the filmmaking industry. As one of the most progressive and adaptive fields, the filmmaking industry is usually the first area to introduce new technologies. Although it was already used earlier, it is considered that in 2017 was a real boom for virtual reality technologies used in the film industry. Thus, a lot of companies and technical specialists have contributed to the creation of virtual reality in films. Virtual reality is one of those technologies, which has marked an entirely new era in storytelling. In 2017 there were created a lot of new technical standards, and the presentation of virtual reality has become higher. This fact has also produced many possibilities to conduct further experiments in technological support.

What is about film finance companies?

A lot of film finance companies have made their contributions to the film industry in 2017. Financing new projects and helping investors to find their projects, they create a positive atmosphere of film production promotion. Such a company which contributed to the film industry in 2017 was Red Rock Entertainment. This UK film finance company produced the most significant TV shows on British television and financed many successful British films. The unique feature of this company is that it offers some number of tax-efficient investment opportunities.

When Charlotte receives a ransom note, she realises that her only possible way to return the baby is to do everything by herself. The widow starts her journey through the wildest places of New Zealand, getting acquainted with all the people, presenting “new society”.

The new vision of indie films

It’s not a secret that indie films have already won their admirers. In 2017 there was created a more considerable amount of indie films with an entirely new approach to their production and financing. For example, “That Good Night”, telling about Ralph, who has been a famous screenwriter, but now he is in his seventies and is sick or Shakespeare’s Heroes and Villains, narrating about outstanding English author’s villains and presenting the information entertainingly and breathtakingly. Also, funded by Red Rock Entertainment they made an enormous impact on the film industry in 2017.
